# Usage

> Rate limits for the CurbWaste partner API — company request quota for REST and MCP, and what to do when you hit 429.

Partner REST and MCP share one **company** request quota. List pagination limits (`limit` max 100) are documented on [Overview](/api-reference/overview).

## Company rate limit

Your company may send **100 requests per 60 seconds**. The window starts on the first counted request and resets when it expires.

Every API key for your company shares this bucket. Authenticated calls to `/v1/*` and `POST /mcp` count toward the same limit.

## What counts

| Counts | Does not count |
| - | - |
| Authenticated `/v1` requests (including `400` / `403` after a valid key) | Missing or invalid Bearer tokens (`401`) |
| Authenticated `POST /mcp` requests | Outbound [webhook](/concepts/webhooks) deliveries CurbWaste sends to you |
| | Developer Platform UI and its management APIs |

## When you are limited

When the company quota is exceeded, the API responds with HTTP `429` and `code` `REQUEST_LIMIT_EXCEEDED`:

```json theme={null}
{
  "code": "REQUEST_LIMIT_EXCEEDED",
  "message": "Rate limit exceeded",
  "internalRequestId": "…",
  "extraData": {
    "retryAfter": 17
  }
}
```

The same value appears in the `Retry-After` response header (seconds). Wait that long before retrying. See [Errors](/api-reference/errors) for the shared error body shape.

## MCP sign-in

MCP OAuth routes under `/oauth/*` use a separate limit: **30 requests per 60 seconds per client IP**. That bucket is not shared with the company REST/MCP quota. The response shape is the same `429` / `REQUEST_LIMIT_EXCEEDED` with `Retry-After`.
